Oh where to start with this album…

Now that doesn’t sound very positive, but believe me - it most definitely is.

I’m trying to write this without sounding like a Blink 182 fan creaming themselves over their ‘reunion’. Yeah, that only gets a casual mention from us.

So here’s the background info on ‘The Answer’. Chances are you won’t have heard of them, but thankfully for you - we at WTTJ.net have.

And so have so many legendary bands too.

The Answer are currently supporting AC/DC on their current touring commitments, and have also already supported the likes of Aerosmith, The Who and Whitesnake. Pretty impressive eh? Well there’s more. Jimmy Page is a fan of them, which is extremely high praise.

The Answer hail from Northern Ireland and are made up of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums).

“Everyday Demons” is their second album, and an eagerly awaited follow-up to their debut album “Rise”.

The Answer are actually one of our hotly-tipped bands for 2009 and are a must-hear. And I/we were of that opinion before hearing “Everyday Demons”.

So is it any good? Well take a wild guess. Surrounded by such hype, they live up to it brilliantly. Cormac’s vocals make you feel like you’re in an episode of Life On Mars (living in the 1970s for those who haven’t seen that TV show) and Paul Mahon’s blistering guitar solos and riffs are quite simply amazing.

‘Why’d you change your mind?’ is pure epic-ness. I know in these modern-day internet times, the word “epic” is oftenly over-used but for this song, “epic” is a very fitting description.

Lead single ‘On and On’ is catchy with it’s lyrics, groove and quality guitar work. Production wise, it reminds me of Velvet Revolver (Contraband era).

‘Pride’ could easily be a mainstream radio hit, in a ‘much better than Nickleback’ kind of way. It’s easy on the ear, it sounds big and has some awesome drumming and ‘beautiful’ sounding guitar-playing. Cormac’s vocals of “Priiiiide Priiiiiide” are catchy and easy to remember too.

‘Walkin’ Mat’ has an awesome bass-line, and you can understand why bassist Micky Waters was the first person to play Phil Lynott’s (Thin Lizzy) bass guitar since he died. Yes people, that’s another badge of honour for The Answer.

Overall, this album screams classic-rock. No actual screaming though, which is a good thing.

No worries of a “difficult second album” for The Answer. An early contender for Album of the Year.

For fans of: Led Zeppelin, Velvet Revolver, The Black Crowes.

Rating: 9/10
