LAETHORA - The Light in Which We All Burn
AETHORA, the Swedish death/grind band featuring DARK TRANQUILLITY guitarist Niklas Sundin and members of progressive metallers THE PROVENANCE, will release their second album THE LIGHT IN WHICH WE ALL BURN worldwide through The End Records on May 11, 2010. Recorded earlier this year, the album features thirteen tracks of violent, intense and iconoclastic death/grind performed with the outmost passion and conviction. Whereas the debut album mainly paid homage to old school death metal - approached in a slightly eccentric way and filtered through the members’ eclectic music tastes, the new material is more developed and has a definite voice of its own.Says Sundin: “Guitars, bass and vocals were recorded in our own - completely rebuilt - Gesperrt studios. For the drums and mixing, we decided to utilize Sonores studio, a facility that previously only have hosted electronic/indie bands, string quartets and the likes. This gave us exactly what we wanted: A powerful and dynamic sound that’s different from all other recordings in the genre. “Guitarist Joakim Rosén was once again in charge of the mixing. Mastering duties were handled by Peter in de Betou at Tailor maid (Dark funeral, Meshuggah, Hypocrisy), who did a stellar job with bringing out the best from the mix. From the opening calm-before-the-storm beginning of “Ekpyrosis” to the thrashing rage of “World Deluge” and the open-chord ecstasy of “Humanae”, the album truly shines in its diversity and dedication. The instrumentation is flawlessly executed with an organic and vibrant approach far from today’s sterile extreme metal delivery, topped off with Jonatan Nordenstam’s monstrous voice spitting fire and brimstone over a failed humanity.
