“It’s a heady mix of madness, but a lot of fun.” – Dazed & Confused “Dando delivers surprises… this is worth an hour of anybody’s time.” – The Guardian “On rainy-day ballads heavy with comfy-country guitars and Evan Dando’s ’90s heartthrob languor, clouds quickly clear to make room for energizing electronic guitars and electro-bass beats.” – Blackbook “Varshons is easily the strangest Lemonheads record in maybe two decades and it's not so coincidentally one of their best” – All Music GuideTHE LEMONHEADS recently added more tour dates to their current US run in support of VARSHONS, their upcoming covers album that was released in Europe and the UK this week, and will be out June 23 in the US on The End Records. The Lemonheads will be debuting Varshons via free online streams on MySpace and AOL later this week – stay tuned for more details. The current Lemonheads touring lineup features ex-Zero Boys Vess Ruhtenberg (bass) and Mark Cutsinger (drums) along with NYC-based guitarist, Xan Aird.  The band will be in Denver, Colorado tonight with a two-night stand scheduled for this weekend in Chicago and a hometown show in New York City at the Bowery Ballroom on Thursday, June 25.  Dates then take the band up the east coast and into Canada where they wrap up the tour in Toronto on July 4. VARSHONS was both inspired by and produced by Gibby Haynes, ringmaster of the Butthole Surfers, who for years made mix tapes for his longtime friend Evan. The collection is filled with strange bedfellows - from G.G. Allin to Texas troubadour Townes Van Zandt and garage rockers The Green Fuz.  The Lemonheads make each track their own, with help from actress Liv Tyler, singing back up on Leonard Cohen’s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye,” and Kate Moss, who sings over the dance groove of Arling & Cameron’s “Dirty Robot.” Also featured on lead guitar and backing vocals throughout most of the album is John Perry, on loan from The Only Ones. VARSHONS unearths a pair of psychedelic treasures with “Yesterlove” – a song recorded in 1969 by the group Sam Gopal featuring future Motorhead bassist Lemmy Kilmister – and “Dandelion Seeds” from July, record collector’s Registered Landmark Band. For “Layin’ Up With Linda,” the band filters Allin’s cold-blooded tale through the swaggering country-honk of The Stones’ “Dead Flowers.” Filled with obscure nuggets, the tracks on VARSHONS cut a wide swath, jumping from early British psychedelic to Dutch electronica and like all good mix tapes, you never know what is coming next.
